An eight-horse final field of three-year-olds have been accepted for the 2011 Caulfield Guineas at Caulfield Racecourse this Saturday, October 8, race favourite Helmet suffering a setback after drawing the far outside barrier.

Leading the ante-post betting markets at Luxbet for the $1 million Group 1 Caulfield Guineas (1600m) this year since their commanding three and a half length victory in the Prelude on September 24, the Peter Snowden-trained Helmet has their work cut out for them on Saturday from barrier eight of eight if they are to add a third elite level title to their already impressive race record.

Sign up with Luxbet today for a $500 bonus bet to use on a race of your choice, including the Caulfield Guineas!

Prior to the Caulfield Guineas Prelude, Exceed And Excel colt Helmet ran third in the Group 1 Golden Rose in Sydney and the two horses that beat him home that day are also engaged for the Caulfield Guineas 2011.

Golden Rose winner Manawanui will jump from an ideal barrier three draw with Glyn Schofield in the mount on Saturday, the Ron Leemon-trained Oratorio gelding coming off an all-too-easy victory over four inferior rivals in the Group 2 Stan Fox Stakes (1500m).

Meanwhile, Anthony Cumming’s Golden Rose runner-up Smart Missile will look to finally break their Group 1 maiden this weekend.

The talented son of Fastnet Rock was the beaten favourite when running 10th to Toorak Toff in the Group 1 Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes (1400m) at Caulfield last-start, their horror barrier 17 draw ruining their chances in what was their Melbourne race debut.

Smart Missile will advantage from a much nicer gate two draw for the Caulfield Guineas and back against his own age is sure to have plenty of admirers in the Luxbet markets for the weekend’s drawcard event.

Another galloper that is high-up the Caulfield Guineas betting odds at Luxbet is Chase The Rainbow, Rick Hore-Lacy’s ultra consistent Dash For Cash colt seeking back-to-back Group wins in just eight days having won last Friday night’s Group 2 Bill Stutt Stakes (1600m) at Moonee Valley.

Meanwhile, the horses that finished two-three behind Helmet in the Caulfield Guineas Prelude last start have also both been accepted for the Caulfield Guineas 2011 field.

Prelude runner-up Secret Hills has drawn the inside alley, but will need to improve around three lengths here to be competitive, while third placegetter, the Anthony Freedman-trained Specter has claims having previously defeated both Chase The Rainbow and Secret Hills at Flemington last month.

Finishing off the list of 2011 Caulfield Guineas acceptances are Peter Moody’s Hugeill who won a midweek race at Sandown last-start and roughie of the field and betting at Luxbet, the John Symon-trained General Offer.

Smart Missile

Caulfield Guineas Odds: $3.40 Luxbet

Sitting at the top of the futures odds at Luxbet for the $1 million Group 1 Caulfield Guineas (1600m) is the Anthony Cummings-trained Smart Missile.

After their last-start loss in the Golden Rose, Smart Missile remained at the top of the Caulfield Guineas markets and after second declarations has firmed further into $3.40.

Cummings has opted not to start Smart Missile in the Group 3 Caulfield Guineas Prelude (1400m), and will instead give the untapped colt their chance to win at elite level before the Caulfield Guineas in the $350,000 Group 1 Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes (1400m) at Caulfield Racecourse this Saturday.

Smart Missile is drawn wide in barrier 17 of 17 for the Sir Rupert Clarke, but has the racing style and potential to overcome this and win their Melbourne and open-age debut, saluting for the punters as they are also the current $3.40 favourite for Caulfield Race 6 this Saturday at Luxbet.

Moment Of Change

Caulfield Guineas Odds: $5.50 Luxbet

One of three Caulfield Guineas second acceptances for Peter Moody, who is vying for back-to-back wins following the success of the since retired Anacheeva in last year’s race.

Moment Of Change is yet to be confirmed as a Guineas starter, but has been the futures market firmer after bringing their record to two from two, backing up from their blistering 10 length win on debut with and equally effortless four length success at Sandown over 1300 metres on September 14.

Their last-start win was the same race won by 2007 Caulfield Guineas winner Weekend Hussler, can Moment Of Change emulate that fairytale success? They race next in the $200,000 Group 2 Bill Stutt Stakes (1600m) at Moonee Valley on Friday night, October 30.

Helmet

Caulfield Guineas Odds: $6 Luxbet

Peter Snowden’s two-time Group 1 winning son of Exceed And Excel has twice been beaten into third by Guineas rivals this season, most recently in the Golden Rose.

The mile will be the key to unlocking their talent, but first they tackle the $175,000 Group 3 Caulfield Guineas Prelude (1400m) this Saturday, a win in which will see their Guineas odds shorten.

They are the drifting $2.90 Guineas Prelude favourite at Luxbet after drawing barrier six, $41 Guineas long-shot and last-start Group 3 McNeil Stakes winner Golden Archer (Peter Moody) the Prelude market mover in from $5 to $3.70.

Loads of talent in this Ron Leemon-trained Oratorio gelding. They ran third on debut at Canterbury in March and haven’t been beaten since winning their next four on the trot including the Group 3 Up & Coming Stakes (1300m) by four and a half lengths and then the sensational upset win in the Golden Rose last-start.

Look well positioned to make it five consecutive on Saturday when they take on just five four rivals in the $250,000 Group 2 Stan Fox Stakes (1500m) at Rosehill, a win in which probably won’t affect their Caulfield Guineas price too much considering their next highest-rated rival is a horse that hasn’t won since November last year.

Many other 2011 Caulfield Guineas hopes will race in the Guineas Prelude at Caulfield this Saturday including Chase The Rainbow and Cross Of Gold, so make sure you keep an eye on this traditional lead-up as a guide to your Guineas bets at Luxbet.

Dominating the Caulfield Guineas 2011 odds at Australia’s leading online bookmaker Luxbet is the Anthony Cummings-trained Smart Missile, the undefeated colt leading the markets at $5.

Cummings also paid up for three of Smart Missile’s stablemates, most notabley Strike The Stars ($31 Luxbet) who ran a close-up third in open company behind Trusting and My Kingdom Of Fife in the Group 2 Chelmsford Stakes (1600m) at Warwick Farm last Saturday.

Smart Missile is joined at the top of the 2011 Caulfield Guineas betting by Peter Snowden’s two time Group 1 winning colt Helmet.

By Exceed And Excel, Helmet is at a quote of $6.50 to take out the Caulfield Guineas this year and is one of the only first acceptors to have won over the mile thanks to their elite level victory in the Group 1 Champagne Stakes (1600m) at Randwick last season.

Helmet also won the Group 1 AJC Sires Produce Stakes (1400m) as a two-year-old and gets the chance to become a triple Group 1 hero and defeat Smart Missile when the duo face off in the 2011 Golden Rose Stakes in Sydney this Saturday.

Snowden, Darley’s No. 1 trainer, has four other Caulfield Guineas horses still in contention, the most notable of which is Ambidexter ($26 Luxbet) the Commands colt that won the Listed Ming Dynasty Handicap (1400m) at Warwick Farm last weekend.

Smart Missile and Helmet are the only Caulfield Guineas entries at currently at single figure odds to win, but following them in the markets for the prestigious classic are the likes of the Peter Moody-trained Moment Of Change ($13), David Hayes’ progressive Redoute’s Choice colt Cross Of Gold ($16) and last-start Group 3 Up And Coming Stakes winner Manawanui ($18) who is also racing in the $1 million Group 1 Golden Rose (1400m) this Saturday.

Meanwhile, Victorian Premiership winning trainer Peter Moody will be vying for back-to-back victories in the race following the success of his 2010 Caulfield Guineas winner Anacheeva.

Along with Moment Of Change, Moody has also paid up for Godspeed, Huegill, Highly Recommended and Golden Archer who won the Group 3 HDF McNeil Stakes last-start.

The 2011 Caulfield Guineas nominations have been taken by Racing Victoria with 277 three-year-old colts and geldings heading towards the $1 million Melbourne Spring Racing Carnival showdown.

Due to run at Caulfield Racecourse on Saturday October 8, the Group 1 The Age Caulfield Guineas (1600m) is one of the premier early feature races of the season and provides an excellent early lead-up race for gallopers heading towards other majors including the 2011 Caulfield Cup.

Last year’s Caulfield Guineas was won by the Peter Moody-trained Anacheeva, a Caulfield Cup hopeful this spring, and 12 months on premier Victorian horseman Moody has six on the way towards the 2011 Caulfield Guineas field.

Leading Moody’s aim for successive Caulfield Guineas victories include Golden Archer, Godspeed and Huegill.

Moody also has a sizeable list of three-year-old fillies entered for the 2011 Thousand Guineas, for which nominations were also released today.

The Caulfield Guineas this year also features a strong presence of Sydney raiders, with leading Darley trainer Peter Snowden nominating his dual Group 1 winner Helmet.

Exceed And Excel colt Helmet enjoyed four straight wins last season including back-to-back elite level victories in the AJC Sires Produce Stakes and Champagne Stakes, making them the likely Caulfield Guineas betting favourite when markets open at Luxbet.

Snowden, however, chose not to enter his Blue Diamond – Golden Slipper winning champion Sepoy in the Caulfield Guineas 2011.

The other most notable Caulfield Guineas hopeful that is sure to top the Guineas odds this spring is the Anthony Cummings-trained Smart Missile who is first set to take place in the 2011 Golden Rose in Sydney.

“The Golden Rose will give us a bit of a guide on whether we should be looking at a Caulfield Guineas – Cox Plate type preparation or if it looks like he will be better suited over the shorter trips we can aim at the (Group 1) Coolmore (Stud Stakes at Flemington on Victoria Derby Day),” Cummings said.

The next stage of Caulfield Guineas acceptances will be first declarations taken on Tuesday September 6, followed by the second declarations on Tuesday 20 September.

The capacity 16-starter plus four emergencies 2011 Caulfield Guineas final field is then due for release on Tuesday October 4.

Caulfield Guineas betting odds will be released very shortly, so punters don’t have to wait until the field is out to get their early money on the winner!

Visit Luxbet now and get ready for the action by opening your online betting account and if you quote the promo code BONUSBET when you first join and deposit you will be instantly rewarded with a bonus bet up to $400!

Nominations for the major Melbourne Spring Racing Carnival features will be taken by Racing Victoria next week including the Caulfield Guineas 2011.

With the spring countdown officially on, racing fans and Luxbet punters around the country will get their first official look at the three-year-olds heading towards the $1 million Group 1 The Age Caulfield Guineas (1600m).

This year the Caulfield Guineas date is scheduled as October 8 at Caulfield Racecourse.

Connections have until midday next Tuesday, August 2, to get their horses on the 2011 Caulfield Guineas nominations list.

Other major spring showdowns that nominations will be released for next Tuesday are the 2011 Cox Plate, 2011 Caulfield Cup and 2011 Thousand Guineas.

While pre-nomination betting markets are already open for a number of these races as well as the spring carnival showpiece the 2011 Melbourne Cup at Luxbet, Caulfield Guineas odds will be released soon after Tuesday’s early entries.

Last year the 2010 Caulfield Guineas attracted 262 nominations, that figure expected to for 2011.

Bookmark this site to be the first to view the 2011 Caulfield Guineas nominations and odds.

Horses expected to be among the early Caulfield Guineas entries include the Peter Snowden-trained trio of Helmet, Sepoy and Pied A Terre.

Pied A Terre only recently emerged as a possible Caulfield Guineas contender after the Ad Valorem gelding won their second race from as many career starts at Flemington on July 23.

Despite being a definite nomination, Pied A Terre may not be among the 2011 Caulfield Guineas final field of acceptors on October 4.

“The Golden Rose might be an option,” Melbourne foreman Paul Snowden said.

“I think he’ll run a mile on his ear, but the Guineas may come a bit quick.”

The 2011 Golden Rose is the opening Group 1 race of the season, taking place at Rosehill during the Sydney Spring Carnival on Saturday September 10.

Many Caulfield Guineas hopefuls also have the $1 million Golden Rose as a target, so watching for the good performers here is a good way to get an early insight for your Guineas bets at Luxbet.

Another big name juvenile from last season likely to vie for the title of 2011 Caulfield Guineas winner is Smart Missile, who trainer Anthony Cummings described as a “genuine miler”.

Be the first to bet on the Caulfield Guineas field of nominations by opening your Luxbet account today.

The 2011 Caulfield Guineas has been named as one of the major Melbourne Spring Racing Carnival goals for Peter Snowden’s dual Group 1 winning colt Helmet.

One of last season’s most eye-catching juveniles, Exceed And Excel colt Helmet played a major part in Snowden and the Darley Racing’s Group 1 two-year-old clean-sweep, the talented galloper winning four of their five career starts to date including the 2011 AJC Sires Produce Stakes and 2011 Champagne Stakes.

Now Helmet, as well as his star Blue Diamond Stakes – Golden Slipper winning stablemate Sepoy, is set to return to the Australian horse racing scene with Snowden aiming to repeat his success in the premier three-year-old Sydney and Melbourne Spring features.

While Sepoy will stick to the spring sprints and bypass the $1 million Group 1 Caulfield Guineas 2011 at Caulfield Racecourse on October 8, Helmet has been confirmed for the 1600 metre set-weights showdown.

“He’ll kick off with two runs in Sydney, maybe taking in the Golden Rose, and then come to Melbourne for the Guineas Prelude and then Guineas,” Snowden said of Helmet’s 2011 Spring Carnival campaign.

The 2011 Golden Rose is the elite three-year-olds race during the Sydney Spring Carnival, the $1 million feature to run at Rosehill Gardens Racecourse on September 10.

The best lead-up race to the Caulfield Guineas is the $175,000 Group 3 Caulfield Guineas Prelude (1400m), and this race always provides an excellent guide for punters that want to get in early at Luxbet and back their choice for the Caulfield Guineas winner.

The 2011 Caulfield Guineas Prelude will run on September 9, and Helmet will be out to emulate last year’s champion Anacheeva who won the Prelude – Guineas double for trainer Peter Moody.

Helmet is set to be the leading entry when the 2011 Caulfield Guineas Nominations are taken on Tuesday August 2.

Caulfield Guineas pre-field betting markets will also open around this time at Australia’s leading bookmaker Luxbet.

The list of Caulfield Guineas hopefuls will be narrowed down on September 6 with the first declarations, followed by the second declaration stage on September 20 and then finally the Caulfield Guineas 2011 Final Field of acceptances will be released on Tuesday October 4.

But don’t wait until the Guineas Field is confirmed to place your spring bets!

Head to Luxbet now and open an account to be the first to back the spring carnival winners at the best odds.

Markets are already open for the Melbourne Cup so don’t delay, sign up with Luxbet today and get up to $400 in bonus bets by quoting the promo code BONUSBET when you join and deposit!

The final field of 2010 Caulfield Guineas has been released, with 16 runners set to contest the race this Saturday October 9.

With the Caulfield Guineas field and barrier draw decided, early market odds are already up at SportsBet, with Ilovethiscity the odds-on favourite to win at $4.00 and starting from barrier 11. The young colt impressed in a Group 3 Spring Stakes win over 1600 metres after a third place in the Group 1 Golden Rose.

Just behind in the odds at $4.40 is Toorak Toff, winner of the Golden Rose and second place finisher in the Group 3 Caulfield Guineas Prelude. He will start from barrier 8. Given his prior win over Ilovethiscity and better starting barrier, you would expect Toorak Toff to be the favourite. However, Toorak Toff performed poorly in his only 1600 metre run so far, which may have warned punters off backing him in the Caulfield Guineas proper.

Starting from barrier 1 is Anacheeva, winner of the Caulfield Guineas Prelude and the Listed McKenzie Stakes before that. Priced at $8.00, Anacheeva could be a real bargain for punters given he had a good run in the Group 1 Champagne Stakes (1600m) earlier this year. This saw him take fourth place and finish ahead of Toorak Toff.

Look below for the full 2010 Caulfield Guineas field, and be sure to join SportsBet now to bet with their great early market odds!

The second declarations for the 2010 Caulfield Guineas have seen the field reduced by more than half since the first declarations. 48 horses have been withdrawn, cutting the numbers down to just 44.

Toorak Toff is still sticking around, toughing it out after a close second place finish in the Caulfield Guineas Prelude on the weekend. The close finish has punters keeping faith in the horse, as he is still the favourite in the odds at SportsBet at $5.00 to win.

Just behind in the odds at $5.50 is Ilovethiscity, who finished behind Toorak Toff in the Golden Rose, but managed to pull off a win in the Spring Stakes soon afterwards.

Also high up in the early odds is Anacheeva, winner of the Prelude on Saturday over a game Toorak Toff. At $8.00, punters still aren’t sure of Anacheeva’s potential, as his short 5 race career has been anything but consistent.

Unsurprisingly, some notable fillies have left the field in the second declarations, with Willow Creek and Pinker Pinker being aimed at the Thousand Guineas instead. Notable colts like Altius and Praecido have also been withdrawn, with Altius now being aimed at the Victoria Derby.

The nominations for the 2010 Caulfield Guineas have been released, and SportsBet is already offering early odds on the event.

Two horses top the odds at SportsBet, with both Star Witness and Toorak Toff at $8.

Star Witness is the Danny O’Brien trained winner of the Group 1 Blue Diamond Stakes, and has had 3 wins in 5 starts. He also placed third recently in the Vain Stakes at Caulfield, coming in behind Soul in second and Toorak Toff in first.

Toorak Toff has the advantage of having beaten Star Witness once, as well as a win in the Group 3 Jansz – National Stakes. He’s won 4 out of 7 starts, but failed to place in his other losses.

Next in the odds are Skilled and Masquerader, looking good at $12 and both holding impressive records.

Skilled is the winner of the Group 1 Moët & Chandon Champagne Stakes and the Listed race The Schweppervescence, as well as the Pagewood Handicap. He also placed second in the Group 1 Produce Stakes.

What makes Skilled’s record particularly good for the Caulfield Guineas is that his best performances have been at 1400 to 1600 metres. This puts him in good position against the favourites.

Masquerader is the winner of the Group 2 Todman Stakes, and he came second in the Group 3 Run to the Rose recently. Bets on Masquerader may need to wait until after he runs in the Golden Rose, to get a better idea of his form over longer distances.

If you would like to bet on the 2010 Caulfield Guineas at the great early prices on offer, be sure to sign up for an account with SportsBet.
