Godolphin runner Impending has returned to racing in slick form this time and remains an outright $4.80 favourite in 2016 Ladbrokes Caulfield Guineas betting markets with Ladbrokes.com.au, ahead of Divine Prophet ($5) and Sacred Elixir ($6.50).

Will Impending justify favouritism and win the 2016 Caulfield Guineas, or will one of his talented rivals post an upset?

1st

Sacred Elixir ($6.50)

Kiwi gelding Sacred Elixir has returned to racing in typically slick form this time and should prove extremely tough to beat in the Caulfield Guineas from barrier 7, with Damian Lane in the saddle. Debuting in Australia for a comfortable win in the Bundaberg Rum Handicap (1400m) on May 11th, the Pour Moi gelding placed sixth in the Group 2 BRC Sires’ Produce Stakes (1350m) before breaking through for a maiden win at the highest level in the Group 1 JJ Atkins (1600m) on June 11th. Having produced a big effort to win the Group 3 Caulfield Guineas Prelude (1400m) a fortnight ago, Sacred Elixir will relish a return to a mile and represents terrific value at current Ladbrokes Caulfield Guineas odds.

2nd

Impending ($4.80)

Impending carries winning form into the Caulfield Guineas and will be right in the finish of the race, with James McDonald aboard. Returning to the paddock after finishing third in the Group 3 Ken Russell Memorial Plate (1200m) on May 7th, the Lonhro colt placed third in the Group 2 The Run To The Rose (1200m) first-up on August 27th. Again running a positive third in the Group 1 Golden Rose (1400m) on September 10th, Impending delivered a smart field a comfortable defeat in the Group 2 Stan Fox Stakes (1500m) on September 24th and will enjoy a step up to a mile on Saturday.

3rd

Hey Doc ($10)

Hey Doc is another runner that has returned to racing in particularly slick form this time, but will undoubtedly require luck in running from barrier 13. Stamping himself as one to watch through a positive debut campaign in autumn, the Duporth gelding resumed this time for success in the Cove Hotel BM70 (1200m) on August 7th. Repeating the dose in the Quest Moonee Valley Handicap (1514m), Hey Doc broke through for a maiden black type win in the Group 2 Bill Stutt Stakes (1600m) on September 30th.
