Press Statement a Dominant 2015 Caulfield Guineas Winner

October 10th, 2015

Talented colt Press Statement has posted a second win at the highest level and at a mile this afternoon; producing a huge effort to lead from start to finish in the featured Group 1 Caulfield Guineas (1600m).

Jumping from the gates well, jockey Hugh Bowman allowed the colt to stride forward and take up the pace ahead of Kentucky Flyer and Ready For Victory; injecting plenty of pace into the race from the get-go.

Rounding onto the final straight after receiving a dream run in transit, Press Statement immediately responded when asked for an extra effort by Bowman; producing a huge turn of foot to finish in the clear of a brave Lizard Island; Ready For Victory boxing on for third.

Bowman delivered a typically brilliant performance aboard Press Statement for success in the 2015 Caulfield Guineas and was quick to heap all the praise on the class of the son of Hinchinbrook.

“He’s a star in the making, there’s no doubt about it,” Bowman said after crossing the line.

“Just to go in there and take the field up like that today, it wasn’t the plan but I got caught being indecisive on Pasadena Girl in the last race and I went in there and gave myself a dressing down.

“This is a serious colt, he was the best horse in the race and although we had to ride him a little out of his comfort zone his class came to fruition.

“I don’t like getting carried away but I would say this is one of the top Cox Plate contenders next year and he’s probably earned himself a run this year.”

Trainer Chris Waller was on hand for Press Statement’s impressive Caulfield Guineas win; a result which delivered the leading Sydney trainer his first success in the major stallion-making race.

“Right since when he won the JJ Atkins in Queensland this was the target race with the Golden Rose in between,” Waller said.

“We’ve got it right on this occasion. I don’t know if we’ve had any runners in the race and if I have, it’s never been at this stage.

“Even today with the barrier draw, it was just a great ride from Hugh Bowman. The plan was to go back, get some cover and he just needs to stay out of trouble.

“To see him jump so well, it takes the initiative of a world-class rider to take it up and go forward after he jumped so well.

“He’s a good horse and that’s what good horses do. I remember Lonhro coming from last one day to win a Caulfield Guineas, so I guess good horses break the trends.”

Lizard Island continued his impressive run of form for trainer Pat Hyland in running second, while Ready For Victory was gallant in finishing third in the 2015 Caulfield Guineas.
