100 Included in 2015 Caulfield Guineas First Acceptances

September 8th, 2015

First acceptances for the 2015 Caulfield Guineas (1600m) have been taken, and a total of 100 three-year-olds remain in contention to secure a position in the final field for October 10th’s feature event at Caulfield Racecourse.

Press Statement will contest Saturday’s Group 1 Golden Rose (1400m) in Sydney, but trainer Chris Waller is sure to set the 2015 Caulfield Guineas as the colt’s major target should his form in the race and after warrant a berth.

Debuting to racing for consecutive wins in minor Sydney sprints in autumn, the Hinchinbrook colt stamped himself as a serious Guineas threat when charging home to win the Group 1 JJ Atkins (1600m) at Doomben on June 6th.

Press Statement returned this time for an agonizingly-close second in the Group 2 Run To The Rose (1200m) and should find the 2015 Caulfield Guineas in peak condition.

Waller has included three runners in 2015 Caulfield Guineas first acceptances after also keeping alive the chances of Metallic Crown and Wudang Mountain.

Posting two wins and two minors through his four competitive starts, Metallic Crown made a successful transition to black type racing when leading from start to finish to take out the Group 3 Ming Dynasty Quality (1400m) at Randwick over the weekend.

Wudang Mountain has posted two wins from his four competitive starts but will undoubtedly have to improve greatly to warrant a 2015 Caulfield Guineas berth having yet to contest a black type race.

Godolphin Australia is spoiled for choice with the plethora of talented three-year-olds currently in work, and trainer John O’Shea has accepted a position for nine of his runners in 2015 Caulfield Guineas first acceptances including Exosphere, Holler and Shards.

Exopshere stamped his claims as one to watch through the Autumn Carnival; winning the Group 2 Skyline Stakes (1200m) most notably, but failed to fire in the Golden Slipper.

Having returned this time for success in the Run To The Rose, the Lonhro colt will contest the Golden Rose alongside both Holler and Shards this weekend.

Holler is yet to finish outside the first three in three starts and returned this time for third in the Run To The Rose.

Shards was a strong and consistent performer in minor sprints upon debuting in May, and made a successful transition to black type racing when delivering a handy field defeat in the Group 3 Up And Coming Stakes (1300m) on August 22nd.
