2015 Caulfield Guineas the Target for Gredington

July 12th, 2015

Trainer Pat Hyland has been thrilled with the form and class displayed by Gredington through his short racing career so far, and has revealed an ambitious plan for the rising three-year-old to contest the 2015 Caulfield Guineas (1600m) during the Spring Carnival.

Gredington is far and away one of the most experienced two-year-olds currently in work, and has returned to the paddock for a brief spell following a total of six career starts; undoubtedly highlighted by his performance at Warrnambool over the weekend in which he charged home from the rear of the field to win with a race-high 59kgs.

Understandably pleased with the Magnus colt’s two wins and a minor through six starts, Hyland told Racing Live he is confident the conditions of the 2015 Caulfield Guineas will suit Gredington and is hopeful he will progress into being a legitimate contender.

“It was a great effort,” Hyland said.

“I gave up after the first 50 yards when she (apprentice Jackie Beriman) got back that far.

“But I think he could be a Guineas horse and he was here at Warrnambool on a wet day.

“He’s a very promising horse. I think we’re going to have a lot of fun with him.”

Beriman was similarly thrilled with Gredington’s performance over the weekend and is confident the colt is capable of a glittering career.

“He’s a really nice horse with a bright future,” Beriman said.

Debuting for a near-two length success in the Peter Horobin Saddlery Maiden (1000m) on January 2nd, Gredington was unlucky to be blocked for a run and eighth in the Group 3 Blue Diamond Prelude (1100m) on February 14th, but responded well in placing second in the Guinot Skincare Handicap (1300m) and fourth in the Group 2 VRC Sires’ Produce Stakes (1400m).

Having returned for fourth in the Vobis Gold Plate (1000m) on June 24th, Gredington will likely return to the paddock for a brief spell prior to his 2015 Caulfield Guineas campaign.
