Keys Confident Rich Enuff Will Account For Distance in Caulfield Guineas

October 9th, 2014

Returning to racing in exceptional form this time in, trainer Ken Keys is confident classy colt Rich Enuff will have no issues performing over 1600m in this weekend’s featured Group 1 Caulfield Guineas, despite having never contesting an event over the distance competitively.

Yet to contest a Group 1 event over his four race career so far, Rich Enuff more than stamped his claims as a leading Caulfield Guineas contender when charging home to win the Group 3 Guineas Prelude event over 1400m on September 28th.

Pleased with the Written Tycoon colt’s allocation of barrier 10 this weekend, Keys told AAP he is confident Rich Enuff’s bloodline holds the key to success in events at 1600m and over.

“We could be proved wrong on that, but in our mind we have no doubt he will run it,” Keys said.

“He relaxed the other day. Michael (Rodd) made the comment that he was asleep from the 800 to the 500 and he was scared that he had no horse under him.

“His half-brother Lightenuff won at 2000-metres, so on that score it doesn’t bother me.”

Understandably thrilled with Rich Enuff’s form over three starts this time in, Keys said jockey Michael Rodd had offered a glowing report on the condition of the three-year-old following a strong piece of work of Tuesday morning, and is confident of the team’s chances of success in the 2014 Caulfield Guineas.

“Michael came down and rode him. He was happy and I was too,” Keys added.

“He went over 1200 (metres) in evens and a strong last half-mile, and he needed it.

“It was a good clean up for him as he hadn’t had a proper gallop since he last raced.”

Finishing a fighting third in the Friends Of Epworth Handicap (1000m) on debut on March 29th, Rich Enuff jogged home to win the Listed McKenzie Stakes (1200m) first-up before repeating the dose in the Group 2 Danehill Stakes (1200m) in his only other start prior to the Guineas Prelude. is currently offering the best odds on the 2014 Caulfield Guineas, for which Rich Enuff is available at a quote of $2.30 for success.
