Rodd Thrilled with Caulfield Guineas Barrier Draw for Rich Enuff

October 8th, 2014

Returning to the track in exceptional condition this time in, jockey Michael Rodd is confident classy three-year-old Rich Enuff will justify favouritism and win this weekend’s featured Group 1 BECK Caulfield Guineas (1600m) despite drawing the somewhat wide barrier 10.

Yet to finish outside the places in his four career starts so far, Rich Enuff secured outright favouritism for the 2014 Caulfield Guineas after charging home to win the Group 3 Caulfield Guineas Prelude event over 1400m by close to three lengths on September 28th.

Confident he is aboard the best horse in the final field of 14, Rodd told Racing Victoria barrier 10 should in fact figure as an ideal draw for the Written Tycoon colt and is expecting conditions to play directly into Rich Enuff’s strengths in the 2014 BECK Caulfield Guineas.

“I’m really happy, it’s a perfect draw for him,” Rodd said.

“He’s got incredible gate speed, so there’s not much of a problem of getting across in front of the field, it’s more so where the other pace is drawn around him.

“There’s a couple out wide that have drawn pretty ordinary and they’re going to have to push forward, so we’ll just slide across with those guys early and let it sort itself out.”

Debuting with a strong run for third in the Friends Of Epworth Handicap (1000m) on March 29th, trainer Ken Keys’ decision to skip the 2014 Autumn Carnival with Rich Enuff with a long view towards spring has already paid dividends, with the three-year-old winning each of the Listed McKenzie Stakes (1200m) first-up on August 23rd and Group 2 Danehill Stakes (1200m) prior to the Caulfield Guineas Prelude.

Leading online bookie Ladbrokes.com.au is currently offering the best odds on the 2014 Caulfield Guineas, for which Rich Enuff is featured as outright $2.40 favourite for success ahead of Looks Like The Cat ($5.50), Shooting To Win ($7) and Almalad ($7.50).
