Rich Enuff Favourite for 2014 Caulfield Guineas

September 28th, 2014

Returning to the track in exceptional form this season, trainer Ken Keys and jockey Michael Rodd are confident classy three-year-old Rich Enuff can continue his scintillating run through the featured Group 1 Caulfield Guineas (1600m) after another impressive win in the Group 3 Caulfield Guineas Prelude (1400m) over the weekend.

Jumping from the gates well in the Caulfield Guineas Prelude, Rodd settled the Written Tycoon gelding in prime position on the heels of the race’s early leaders before displaying a typically superior turn of foot to find the line two-and-a-half lengths in the clear of Looks Like The Cat; Awesome Rock running on for third.

Understandably thrilled with Rich Enuff’s performance in the Caulfield Guineas Prelude, Rodd told Racing Victoria it will be a matter of keeping him ticking over ahead of October 11th’s Caulfield Guineas.

“It was very easy,” Rodd said.

“He absolutely flew the barriers and I could have got across a lot quicker and maybe cleared them, but I didn’t want to run the risk of firing him up and having him do too much wrong, so I just grabbed onto him and got him back on the bridle.

“By the time we got across we’d done a fair bit of work and were rolling along, but he just does it so easy … that turn of foot is just incredible.

“The next two weeks are going to be a bit on edge just to make sure we get him there, but it’s going to be a great day.”

Ken Keys revealed he is somewhat taken back by the prospect of saddling the now 2014 Caulfield Guineas favourite, but remains excited by the exceptional chance for success.

“It’s going to be a bit tough,” Keys said.

“But it’s going to be very exciting. What do you do, though? You’ve just got to enjoy it.”

Second favourite in early betting markets for the 2014 Caulfield Guineas prior to the weekend, Rich Enuff has now usurped Group 1 winner Almalad on the top line for success; available at $3.40 with leading online bookie Ladbrokes.com.au.
