September 9th, 2014

A total of 108 three-year-olds have been confirmed in first acceptances for the 2014 Group 1 Caulfield Guineas (1600m), slated for Caulfield Racecourse on October 11th.

Finishing outside the places just once in five competitive starts so far, trainer Mark Kavanagh has confirmed Chivalry in first acceptances for the 2014 Caulfield Guineas.

Debuting with a close run for second in the Leadwest Plate (1000m) on December 14th, Chivalry broke through for an impressive victory over the likes of Bugatty in the Quest Moonee Valley Plate (1000m) on December 28th before placing a credible third in the Group 3 Blue Diamond Prelude (1100m) on February 8th.

Returning to the paddock after running mid-pack in the Group 1 Blue Diamond Stakes (1200m) on February 22nd, the Street Cry colt returned to the track for an impressive win in the Group 3 McNeil Stakes (1200m) on August 30th and appears in line for a memorable 2014 Spring Racing Carnival.

Also confirmed in first acceptances for the 2014 Caulfield Guineas is impressive first-up winner Winx.

Debuting with a comfortable victory in the Ibis Milano Restaurant Maiden (1100m) on June 4th before repeating the dose in the TAB Early Quaddie Handicap (1400m) on June 28th, Winx was not expected to make such an impressive step-up to black type racing when confirmed to face Earthquake in the Group 2 Furious Stakes (1200m) last weekend, but displayed an exceptional turn of foot in the final straight to dish out the leading three-year-old only her second competitive defeat.

Also included in nominations for the Group 1 Thousand Guineas (1600m) on October 11th, trainer Chris Waller is confirm a final target for the Street Cry filly following another race start.

A leading performer in major events in his native Queensland through the 2014 Brisbane Winter Racing Carnival, trainer Tony Gollan has confirmed Looks Like The Cat in first acceptances for the 2014 Caulfield Guineas.

Debuting with a near-two length victory in the XXXX Gold Handicap (1200m) on February 8th, Gollan decided against floating Looks Like The Cat to Sydney for major two-year-old events in autumn and instead chased local events; a decision which paid dividends.

Finishing second to Brazen Beau in the Group 2 Champagne Classic (1200m) on May 8th, the Husson gelding stamped his claims for a black type spring campaign when finishing third in both the Group 2 BRC Sires’ Produce Stakes (1350m) and Group 1 J.J. Atkins (1600m) behind fellow Caulfield Guineas first acceptances Almalad and Brazen Beau.

Undefeated in his maiden racing prep, Almalad won the Nuturf Plate (1000m) with relative ease before taking out the TAB Early Quaddie Plate (1200m) and Group 1 J.J. Atkins.

Disappointing when beating a single runner home in the Group 3 Run To The Rose (1200m) first-up on August 30th, trainer Gai Waterhouse is confident of a far-more polished performance in the Group 1 Golden Rose Stakes (1400m) for Almalad in preparation for his return to a mile in the Caulfield Guineas.

Finishing outside the places just once in five competitive starts, Brazen Beau won his maiden race by close to five lengths, and while unable to handle the late pace when fifth in the Listed Lonhro Plate (1100m) on March 8th, returned to impressive form over the three major two-year-old events of the 2014 Winter Carnival.
