Running as the last on a bumper 10-race program, this year’s $1 million Group 1 BECK Caulfield Guineas (1600m) features a final field of 14 hopes and is full of depth.

The steady favourite in betting has been the Peter Snowden-trained Long John, available at an incredible $8 in’s DOUBLE THE ODDS promo.

All the horses in the field in fact are available at double their Fixed Win odds at today, making it the perfect race to enjoy a punt on.

Long John is joined by four other single-figure chances, in the standard fixed win markets, in Caulfield Guineas Day betting with:

  • Tony Vasil’s Prince Harada ($11 DTO) who should love the distance
  • Market mover Dissident ($16 DTO) coming back to their own age after a brave George Main sixth
  • Last start Caulfield Guineas Prelude winner Éclair Big Bang ($17 DTO)
  • Prelude runner-up El Roca ($15 DTO) who is only lightly raced and drawn nicely in gate two

So should you back the shorties in the Caulfield Guineas odds today?

Or is there value looking further down the markets at some longer priced hopes such as Bill Stutt Stakes winner Divine Calling ($34 DTO) or runner-up in that race Shamus Award ($42)?

Caulfield Guineas Winner:

#1 Dissident ($17 DTO) – Moody’s colt is at a great price to score an upset here and certainly has flown under the radar, second two back in the Golden Rose behind Zoustar (who is flying), then up to open-age for the George Main where they held on in a great effort, this is easier and All Too Hard came via the same Group 1 for their Guineas win 12 months ago

Caulfield Guineas Quinella:

#1 Dissident from #3 Divine Calling ($34 DTO) – Tipping the form of the Group 2 Bill Stutt Stakes to stack up here as it has a number of times in recent years, Gai Waterhouse-trained grey who is way over the odds, proven at the mile which 99% of these can’t say

Caulfield Guineas Trifecta:

#1 Dissident from #3 Divine Calling and #7 Prince Harada ($11 DTO) – Behind the top two we like the Golden Rose fifth placegetter Prince Harada who comes in fresh here, first-up second in the Group 3 HDF McNeil Stakes last time resuming and the mile is set to suit
