Campbell Colt Targets 2013 Caulfield Guineas Glory

July 30th, 2013

Cauthen will begin his campaign towards the 2013 Caulfield Guineas when he runs in Australia for the first time this weekend.

The New Zealand galloper will be running at Moonee Valley Racecourse this Saturday, where he will be having his second career start.

Cauthen won his debut race start by an incredible eight and half lengths at Te Rapa in the $6,000 Goldpine 2YO Maiden on July 3 2013.

The Darci Brahma colt will be out to add to his current prize earnings of $6,000, as well as set himself up for the upcoming Caulfield Guineas at Caulfield Racecourse on October  12, 2013.

Trainer Andrew Campbell is impressed with the way Cauthen has handled the trip over to Australia.

“We’re very happy with the way he has travelled over,” Campbell told sportsnews.

The trainer feels that this weekend’s 1,000 handicap may prove too short for Cauthen, but is hopeful he will still show his ability in the race.

“It may be a bit short for him but we have to kick off somewhere. If he’s hitting the line well we’ll be over the moon,” Campbell said.

Campbell is hopeful that Cauthen will prove himself worthy enough to start in the $1 million Caulfield Guineas in October.

“It’s early days yet but if we can get there it will be a great thrill,” he said.
