Pierro Odds-on in 2012 Caulfield Guineas Betting

October 11th, 2012

Superstar colt Pierro is almost at “Black Caviar odds” for the Group 1 2012 Caulfield Guineas (1600m) in which he will attempt to keep his unbeaten record alive.

A clear standout in all eight of his career starts, Pierro is paying $1.24 to make it a ninth consecutive win in what will be his first start at Caulfield.

The son of Lonhro showed at Moonee Valley two weeks ago that the Melbourne direction does not pose a problem as he cruised to a comfortable five-length win in the Stutt Stakes.

Gai Waterhouse has declared him the best horse she has ever trained and said she got “tingles” watching his track gallop on Tuesday.

“I could feel all my body getting tingles. It was amazing. He’s a very exciting horse,” Waterhouse said.

“He’s a natural athlete and he’s got a fantastic, powerful turn of foot.”

Only one runner is considered a single-figure chance to upset the Cox Plate-bound colt, that being Golden Rose winner Epaulette ($8.00).

Epaulette came the closest any horse has come to Pierro when beaten a neck in the Todman Stakes as a two-year-old but was well back when third to Pierro in The Run To The Rose.

But Paul Snowden, who looks after the Darley colt when he’s in Melbourne, is refusing to concede defeat just yet.

“Just as long as we turn up fit and well on the day, as we are now and who knows?” Snowden said.

Others in the Caulfield Guineas market include the one hyped All Too Hard ($15.00), Guineas Prelude placegetter Awesome Bro ($17.00), Guineas prelude runner-up Let Go Lenni ($31.00) and outsiders Road Trippin ($101.00) and Carringbush Jack ($101.00).
