Caulfield Guineas 2012 Field Wary Of Unbeaten Pierro

October 8th, 2012

While Pierro is yet to actually win the 2012 Caulfield Guineas this Saturday October 6, 2012, his rivals are already conceding that he has the best claim to the title.

Golden Rose winner Epaulette is one of the three-year-olds that will take Pierro on this weekend and his jockey Kerrin McEvoy is finding it hard to be optimistic about his winning chances.

McEvoy is hopeful that Epaulette can bring the same form to the 2012 Caulfield Guineas that saw him finish second to Pierro by a nose in the Group 2 Todman Stakes in March this year.

“One of the few positives we can take into it is that we’ve got closer than anyone else has to Pierro,” McEvoy said.

Epaulette won the Group 3 Caulfield Guineas Prelude at Caulfield racecourse last start and has excelled since his $1 million Golden Rose win last month.

“At Caulfield the other day my horse loomed up and knew he had the job done, so he switched off and coasted the last furlong,” McEvoy said.

“So he only really tested himself for a hundred yards.

“Hopefully he can concentrate on Saturday and really hammer home hard.”

Epaulette has won four of his seven race starts and has earned more than $980,000 in prize money during his horse racing career.

Pierro, on the other hand, is currently unbeaten across his eight race starts and will be looking to continue that flawless record with a 2012 Caulfield Guineas win.
