The 2011 Caulfield
Guineas day will be one remember for decades because of one horse – Black Caviar.
It was the day the champion mare equaled the winning streak
of Australia’s immortal champion Phar Lap with 14 wins.
Promoted as a champion, with the appearance of a champion
and winning like a champion – the people’s horse delivered in all aspects in
the Group 2 Schweppes Schillaci Stakes
(1000m).
There was nothing meek about the effort as she sailed past
the 2011 Magic Millions Classic winner Karuta Queen as if of a different breed and
winning under a hold in what resembled a nice piece of trackwork.
Adding at least 10,000 people to the on-course attendance, Black
Caviar was cheered at racetracks, TABs and households all over Australia.
An outstanding Caulfield
Guineas won by Helmut in a sterling
display provided an appropriate support act for such a special day.
Added was the return to form of the 2010 Caulfield Cup winner
Descarado who showed, in a display
louder than his trainer, that he was back big time after winning the 2011 Group 1 Caulfield Stakes (2000m)
when leading throughout.
And even the Kiwi’s snuck in for one when King Mufhasa won the 2011 Group 1 Toorak Handicap (1600m).
All is good in racing with Black Caviar around.
