Earlier this week Racing Victoria took second declarations for a number of the key Melbourne Spring Racing Carnival features including those for the 2011 Caulfield Guineas, 37 promising three-year-olds still in contention for the classic on October 8.
Below is a quick look at what horses are at the top of the Caulfield Guineas 2011 betting markets at Luxbet and what Caulfield Guineas entries are racing where this weekend.
2011 Caulfield Guineas Odds
Futures all-in betting showing top 24 horses.
Smart Missile
- Caulfield Guineas Odds: $3.40 Luxbet
Sitting at the top of the futures odds at Luxbet for the $1 million Group 1 Caulfield Guineas (1600m) is the Anthony Cummings-trained Smart Missile.
After their last-start loss in the Golden Rose, Smart Missile remained at the top of the Caulfield Guineas markets and after second declarations has firmed further into $3.40.
Cummings has opted not to start Smart Missile in the Group 3 Caulfield Guineas Prelude (1400m), and will instead give the untapped colt their chance to win at elite level before the Caulfield Guineas in the $350,000 Group 1 Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes (1400m) at Caulfield Racecourse this Saturday.
Smart Missile is drawn wide in barrier 17 of 17 for the Sir Rupert Clarke, but has the racing style and potential to overcome this and win their Melbourne and open-age debut, saluting for the punters as they are also the current $3.40 favourite for Caulfield Race 6 this Saturday at Luxbet.
Moment Of Change
- Caulfield Guineas Odds: $5.50 Luxbet
One of three Caulfield Guineas second acceptances for Peter Moody, who is vying for back-to-back wins following the success of the since retired Anacheeva in last year’s race.
Moment Of Change is yet to be confirmed as a Guineas starter, but has been the futures market firmer after bringing their record to two from two, backing up from their blistering 10 length win on debut with and equally effortless four length success at Sandown over 1300 metres on September 14.
Their last-start win was the same race won by 2007 Caulfield Guineas winner Weekend Hussler, can Moment Of Change emulate that fairytale success? They race next in the $200,000 Group 2 Bill Stutt Stakes (1600m) at Moonee Valley on Friday night, October 30.
Helmet
- Caulfield Guineas Odds: $6 Luxbet
Peter Snowden’s two-time Group 1 winning son of Exceed And Excel has twice been beaten into third by Guineas rivals this season, most recently in the Golden Rose.
The mile will be the key to unlocking their talent, but first they tackle the $175,000 Group 3 Caulfield Guineas Prelude (1400m) this Saturday, a win in which will see their Guineas odds shorten.
They are the drifting $2.90 Guineas Prelude favourite at Luxbet after drawing barrier six, $41 Guineas long-shot and last-start Group 3 McNeil Stakes winner Golden Archer (Peter Moody) the Prelude market mover in from $5 to $3.70.
Manawanui
- Caulfield Guineas Odds: $6.50 Luxbet
Loads of talent in this Ron Leemon-trained Oratorio gelding. They ran third on debut at Canterbury in March and haven’t been beaten since winning their next four on the trot including the Group 3 Up & Coming Stakes (1300m) by four and a half lengths and then the sensational upset win in the Golden Rose last-start.
Look well positioned to make it five consecutive on Saturday when they take on just five four rivals in the $250,000 Group 2 Stan Fox Stakes (1500m) at Rosehill, a win in which probably won’t affect their Caulfield Guineas price too much considering their next highest-rated rival is a horse that hasn’t won since November last year.
Many other 2011 Caulfield Guineas hopes will race in the Guineas Prelude at Caulfield this Saturday including Chase The Rainbow and Cross Of Gold, so make sure you keep an eye on this traditional lead-up as a guide to your Guineas bets at Luxbet.
