October 9th, 2010

Here are the race results for the 2010 Caulfield Guineas Day races, with updates throughout the day as more race results are finalized. You can bet on upcoming races by joining Ladbrokes.com.au, which only takes a few minutes join.

Epilepsy Foundation of Victoria Handicap – 1200m

Race 1 saw Sleepers ($11) take the win, followed by Mac Chois ($3.50f) in second and That’s Not It ($8.50) in third. Sleepers took the lead from early on and just held on to it for the whole distance, with Mac Chois staying hopelessly behind in second the entire time.

Harrolds Fashion Plate – 1400m

Race 2 finished with a win for Berringama ($19). Amaethon ($9) finished after in second place and Tagus ($9) took third. Berringama stayed a few lengths back for most of the race, but dug deep when it mattered to take the race in style.

Herbert Power Stakes – 2400m

Race 3 ended in triumph for Linton ($4.60) at the last minute in a run home that put him just ahead of Cedarberg ($31) in second and Precedence ($2.60f) in third. Punters who backed Precedence would have lost faith in him early as he wasted his energy, and Cedarberg backers must have been in tears after Linton pulled ahead, as the outsider put in a valiant effort.

Schillaci Stakes – 1000m

Race 4 saw Black Caviar ($1.80f) continue her unbeaten racing record, as she stayed ahead of Winter King ($26) in second and General Truce ($31) in third. If there were any doubts about how Black Caviar would perform after returning from injury, they were quickly dispelled as she dominated for the whole distance.

Yalumba Stakes – 2000m

Race 5 did not defy expectations as So You Think ($1.40f) took a dominant lead by the end of the race. Finishing in second was Alcopop ($41), while second favourite Whobegotyou ($4) came home in third. So You Think was patiently kept in second behind Red Ruler for much of the way, but jockey Steven Arnold showed his talent with a well-timed run ahead in the final straight for a 3.3 length winning margin.

Toorak Handicap – 1600m

Race 6 continued the dominance of the favourites as More Joyous ($2.30f) surged ahead at the last minute to take first place. Just missing out was We’re Gonna Rock ($12) in second, while Poor Judge ($51) barely managed a third placing in a photo finish ahead of Luen Yat Forever.

FEATURE RACE – Caulfield Guineas – 1600m

Race 7 was the main event of the day and it did not disappoint, with a nerve-wracking final stretch that saw the leader change multiple times. In the end, it was Caulfield Guineas Prelude winner Anacheeva ($6) who seized the day, coming in ahead of Run For Levi ($31) in second and Masquerader ($10) in third. Favourites Toorak Toff and Ilovethiscity (both $5f) disappointed, with Toorak Toff finishing in fourth after weakening in the last 100 metres and Ilovethiscity finishing a shocking tenth.
